William knew at an early age that he wanted to be a ski instructor, starting his career straight out of school in the mid 80’s to became one of the youngest skiers at the time to gain his New Zealand Ski Instructors Alliance full cert Stage II qualification, and then become an Examiner for the NZSIA.
Working numerous back to back winters between Wanaka in NZ, and ski schools in Switzerland, Japan, USA and France, William was selected onto two successive NZSIA Demonstration teams representing NZ at Interski in St Anton - Austria, and again Nozawa Onsen - Japan.
The majority of William’s northern winters were spent teaching for the Ecole du Ski Français in Courchevel 1850 & Valloire France, where he often competed in the annual Challenge des Moniteurs, regularly making the “demi- finals” and “petit-finals” in slalom – a rare achievement for foreign instructors.
Now living all year round in Wanaka with his wife and young son, William is fortunate enough to be able to work as a trainer for the Rookie Academy in the winters, while summers are spent as a Senior MCP software developer.
