Apres Ski Options Abound in Keystone
No Day On The Hill is Complete Without a Recap of Events... You'll Find Keystone Offers Many Apres Ski Hang Out Options.
What happens after you have finished skiing or riding for the day. Keystone's two main base areas, River Run and Mountain House, and the wider town offer an option or ten.
(Note: Most local restaurants and bars have a relaxed dress code but all are very strict on ID. The legal age for drinking is 21 and you'll need photo ID to get into places -- this will often mean carrying your passport because a driver's license won't be accepted.)
River Run Apres Ski:
River Run is the biggest base area with numerous bars and restaurants.
- The Green Light, right at the base of the mountain: Has a guest service corner, which provides a day locker room facility for gear storage and sells tickets for tubing, which is situated on Decurm Mountain. Renowned for cheap American beer served in plastic cups, live music and family friendly atmosphere. Transforms to the Keystone nightclub after dark, which can be very hit and miss.
Moving more into the heart of the village itself…
- Kickapo: A great outdoor bar and restaurant with great views of the slopes well frequented by people. Good meeting place at the end of a day’s skiing and riding.
- The Inkspot: A personal favourite of the rookie crew. Renowned for great coffee, friendly service, freshly made food, a relaxed atmosphere with comfy couches and a great little bookshop on the premise. A great breakfast stop and not a bad place to relax with a good beer at the end of the day either.
- The Wolf Rock: Best happy hour in town serving its own micro beers, brewed on site. Happy hours from 3.30 – 5.30 daily with $2 pints. The ski school staff are loyal supporters! Even though it tends to clear at 5.31 it is a great place to have a quality sit down meal with a good selection of food, beer and wines. Personal favorites have to be the New Zealand mussels.
- Pisanos: A taste of Italian with a small bar and the usual Italian offerings. Don’t expect an authentic “Little Italy” experience. Has developed a popular breakfast buffet in recent years, which is worth checking out.
Onto the cheesiest place in town:
- Parrot Eyes: Mexico meets Colorado…Renowned for cheap Mexican food, good value for money: can’t beat a plate of nachos for $10 or Tecates for $1. If you can handle eating and drinking from plastic, you’ll have a good time here. The place to be on New Years Eve: great ski instructor specials and a good party atmosphere for the big night.
Within the wider village:
- Pizza on the run: Good American pizza at reasonable prices. Popular take out place, but you can eat there after a few beers.
Mountain House Apres Ski:
Mountain House is the other base area in Keystone. It is 10 minute walk from River Run or alternatively it can be accessed through a quick ride on the free blue and white shuttle bus, which operates daily (but not at night). The base area offers great terrain for beginners and offers less in the way of “off the snow” action and antics.
- The Last Lift bar: Probably the oldest bar at the base of the mountain. Renowned for great outdoor seating, live music and good drink specials. Well frequented by ski staff and mountain house staff at the end of the day.
