Garett joined Dean in the Rookie Academy’s formative days, after excelling earlier in his sporting career in swimming, water polo and surf lifesaving. A natural on the snow, he gained his ski instructor’s ticket in 1992 and NZSIA ski instructor examiners qualifications five years later.

Garett has worked in advisory roles overseas, doing seasons at Keystone, Colorado and training the field’s ski school instructors. He is a current member of the New Zealand Demonstration Team, an elite group of instructors chosen to attend international workshops showcasing New Zealand’s developments in techniques and standards.

Garett has been skiing Treble Cone from an early age and is no less enthusiastic about the field and about skiing now, than when he was as a keen young ‘rookie’ himself. Like Dean, Garett is dedicated to continually building the Rookie Academy’s good name in the snow sports industry by ensuring participants graduate with a high standard of technical skills, a positive attitude and solid teaching ability.

He lives in Wanaka with his wife, Sarah and 2 daughters Olivia and Cameron, when the season’s over you will find him out on the lake either waterskiing or windsurfing or up in the forest on his bike.
