Emilie started skiing at 3 years old, on the rope tows in Whakapapa’s Happy Valley. She spent a year begging her parents before they finally agreed to driving 8 hours every weekend, and at 12 joined the Turoa Race Team.

After finishing school Emilie decided to instruct and spent a year working at Auckland’s indoor slope Snowplanet, finding her love for teaching and passion for passing the sport onto others. Teaching reinforced the drive to be a better skier and she returned to racing whilst working part-time and studying Economics long-distance at university. She competed at FIS level for 4 years, attending races across Europe and North America, career highlights being the World University Games in China and placing 3rd in Slalom at the NZ Nationals.

Half-hearted intentions of using her degree just couldn’t compete when faced with the options of sitting at a desk or teaching in the mountains everyday. She gained her NZSIA Level 3 at 25 and has been teaching back-to-back to between Aspen and Thredbo since. She continues to race recreationally, having won the slalom at the Nastar Nationals in 2014 & 2015, and the Thredbo Top 2 Bottom Chinese Downhill in 2015.

She is excited to return to New Zealand to work at the Rookie Academy in 2016. During the months when she is waiting for snow on the ground, Emilie likes to travel and explore new places.
